6. Routine Exploratory Drilling and Support Operations

چکیده

Weight on the bit is accomplished by running in the hole, between the bit and the drill pipe, several lengths of extremely heavy thick-walled pipe, called “drill collars”. Drill pipe may weigh up to 30 kg/m. Drill collars, of larger diameter than drill pipe and of constant diameter throughout, can weigh up to IS0 kg/m. The full hanging weight of the whole assembly in the blocks in the derrick (bit, drill collars and drill pipe), which is continually monitored by the driller at the rig floor, is gradually paid off by lowering the whole string until the bit rests on the bottom of the hole with the precise desired weight applied to it.

Investigation of Thermal Operational Regimes for Diamond Bit Drilling Operations (TECHNICAL NOTE)

This paper reviews existing studies and investigates thermal operational regimes of diamond bit during drilling operations. The operating temperature of the diamond core drill is studied under bench condition and an optimal thermal range are presented. Based on this study, it was noted that glazing of diamond tools is observed at temperatures less than 327°C, and normal wear of diamond tools is...

Comparison of Well Completions Used in Oil/gas Production and Geothermal Operations: a New Approach to Technology Transfer

Renewable energy is seen as the future source for meeting the world’s growing demand, with geothermal offering a constant and independent supply. Tapping geothermal energy is not always straightforward as deep drilling is required in order to access this high -temperature resource. Geothermal drilling is expensive and is financed by the operator (usually districts or state representatives) with...

Monitoring of Hydrocarbons in Benthic Crustaceans during Offshore Drilling and Petroleum Exploration

As part of a broad, multldlsciplinary effort to monitor the impact of petroleum exploration activities on the outer continental shelf areas of the Gulf of Mexico, the local effects of a drilllng rig on the benthic environment have been investigated. Petroleum hydrocarbons in or on seawater can become associated with suspended sediment partlcles I and be transported downward and incorporated int...

The Application of Least Square Support Vector Machine as a Mathematical Algorithm for Diagnosing Drilling Effectivity in Shaly Formations

The problem of slow drilling in deep shale formations occurs worldwide causing significant expenses to the oil industry. Bit balling which is widely considered as the main cause of poor bit performance in shales, especially deep shales, is being drilled with water-based mud. Therefore, efforts have been made to develop a model to diagnose drilling effectivity. Hence, we arrived at graphical cor...
